About Mid-America

Location

Mid-America’s Dyer, Indiana, location is in Chicagoland: the crossroads of North America. The Seminary campus, just a few miles south of U.S. Interstate 80-94, is easily accessible from anywhere in the Chicago area. It is only about forty-five minutes from downtown Chicago and little more than an hour from one of the world’s busiest airports, O’Hare International. Within a day’s drive of the Seminary are the major metropolitan centers of St. Louis, Detroit, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Toronto, and Indianapolis.

This centralized location, combined with Chicagoland’s extensive public transportation system, offers countless opportunities for recreation, study, and employment. One can explore Chicago via train, bus, boat, or taxi.

Chicago is home to three of the world’s tallest buildings (the Willis Tower, the Aon Center (formerly the Amoco Building), and the John Hancock Center), the world’s longest street (Western Avenue), the world’s largest public library (Harold Washington Library), and the world’s largest indoor aquarium (John G. Shedd Aquarium). Other popular tourists sites are Navy Pier, the Adler Planetarium, and the famous “Magnificent Mile” on Michigan Avenue.

Surprisingly, there are 550 parks and 15 miles of swimming beaches within the metropolitan area. Lincoln Park Zoo is one of the few remaining free zoos, and “The Taste of Chicago” is the world’s largest free outdoor food festival. Chicago hosts over 200 parades annually.

The metropolitan area features some of North America’s leading cultural institutions such as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Lyric Opera. The Art Institute of Chicago contains one of the world’s largest collections of Impressionist paintings. The Field Museum and the Museum of Science and Industry are just two of nearly 50 museums in the Chicago area.

Many academic and theological libraries provide valuable resources for personal enrichment. Additionally, students or their wives seeking income have little difficulty finding appropriate employment.

Affordable housing for students and their families is available in the many rural and suburban communities surrounding the Seminary. A church home is also easily found within one of many confessional Reformed and Presbyterian churches in the area. These congregations are quick to welcome Mid-America students and their families into their fellowship.

The Seminary’s thirty-acre campus features an attractive and practical 17,000 square foot facility with classrooms, offices, chapel, library, and student lounge.
