Pastoral Studies
- PS 112 - Church Education
Examination of the biblical and theological basis of implementing an optimal educational ministry in the local church. Significant attention will be given to the church's mandate to teach and disciple, with special focus on the principles and patterns for catechetical teaching. This course is taken in conjunction with the Church Education Practicum.(Fall, 2 hours)
- PS 114 - Preaching and Public Worship
The principles and art of preparing and delivering sermons for the church at worship, along with a study of the principles, structure and conduct of congregational worship. This course is taken in conjunction with the Homiletics Practicum and the Liturgics Practicum.(Fall, 4 hours)
- PS 133 - Pastoral Care and Counseling
A biblical examination of the calling and duties of the pastor in the local church, along with the nature of pastoral nurture. Special attention is given to the varied aspects of visitation ministry, crisis counseling, and pre-marital and marriage counseling. This course is taken in conjunction with the Pastoral Care and Counseling Practicum.(Spring, 3 hours)
- PS 213 - Evangelism and Missions
A study of the biblical foundations, principles and method of personal and ecclesiastical evangelism, along with attention to the application of theology in missions. This course is taken in conjunction with the Evangelism Practicum.(Spring, 3 hours)
- PS 232 - Pastoral Counseling
A course designed to further the ability of those who have already received an introduction to counseling in understanding and applying the principles of God’s Word on an individual basis, using case studies extensively.(Spring, 2 hours)

- PP 121 - Sermon Types
Analysis and discussion of several types of sermons, with initial efforts in arranging sermon structures.(Interim, 1 hour. Prerequisite: PS 114.)
- PP 131 - Applied Sermon
The preparation and delivery of a sermon on an assigned doctrinal text.(Spring, 1 hour. Prerequisite: PS 114.)
- PP 211 - Old Testament Sermon
The preparation and delivery of a sermon on an assigned Old Testament historical text.(Fall, 1 hour. Prerequisite: PS 114.)
- PP 231 - New Testament Sermon
The preparation and delivery of a sermon on an assigned text from the parables or paranetic passages of the New Testament.(Spring, 1 hour. Prerequisite: PS 114.)
- PP 311 - Catechism Sermon
The preparation and delivery of a sermon on an assigned section of the Heidelberg or Westminster Catechisms, with attention to the defense, history, and proper methods of such preaching.(Fall, 1 hour. Prerequisite: PS 114.)
- PP 331 - Occasional Sermon
The preparation and delivery of a sermon on an assigned text suitable for a special occasion, such as installation of office-bearers, church dedications, professions of faith, weddings, funerals, etc.(Spring, 1 hour. Prerequisite: PS 114.)

- ME 462 - Twentieth Century Preaching in the English-Speaking World
Reading and discussion of various types of sermons preached since 1900 in these lands.(2 hours)
- ME 472 - History of Christian Liturgies
Rise and development of the liturgies and liturgical formularies in the churches of Christendom, together with a comparative analysis.(2 hours)
- ME 482 - Church Music
The principles for and use of music in congregational worship, including the use of psalms and hymns, choirs, instruments, etc.(2 hours)
- ME 492 - The Church's Ministry to the Family and the Unmarried
The biblical principles and goals for ministering to families confronted with radical changes in modern society and the church's responsibility to serve singles, divorcees, and the widowed, also on a one-to-one basis, with the riches of the gospel.(2 hours)

A survey of worldwide urbanization, urban anthropology, and Christian approaches to urban populations.(2 hours)
