A Fall Evening Class on New Testament Canon

Sep 6, 2019

Join us as Dr. Marcus Mininger leads us in a 4-part evening class, "The Formation and Basis of the New Testament Canon: Why the Church Recognizes Just These 27 Books and No Others," at Mid-America Reformed Seminary's campus on October 10, 17, 31 & November 7 at 7:30 pm.

Have you ever wondered how we got the New Testament? In particular, how do we know we should have a New Testament at all, since Jesus and his apostles didn’t, and what specific books should be in it? This course explores the way the church came to agree on the New Testament’s contents, on the one hand, and how the New Testament testifies to its own nature and authority, on the other. Topics to be covered in the course include:

            (1) Sufficient Questions: Inquiring Deeply Enough about Canonicity

            (2) Insufficient Answers: Common Explanations for Canonicity and Their Problems

            (3) Important but Underwhelming Agreement: The Church’s Original Process of Deliberation

            (4) Sufficient Grounds: The New Testament’s Self-Attestation and Our Full Assurance

The cost is free! On-campus registration can be found here. Click here for live-stream registration.
